Minimum Requirements:

Basic ability to read and write and six months of experience. Valid driver's license, insurable by the university's insurance carrier and able to operate manual transmission vehicles. Pre-employment physical exam required. Grade 1 (Hourly)

Position Description:

This position provides labor support to the Grounds department. Daily duties include light to heavy lifting, collecting and hauling trash, and monitoring recycling, garbage receptacles, and dumpsters to maintain a clean appearance. Duties also include weeding, irrigating plant areas, and trimming/pruning trees, shrubs, and grass as needed.

This position is a required personnel position and requires the employee's physical presence at the workplace. Additionally, the employee is required to report to (or remain at) work to assist with University emergencies during closures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis and move/lift items over 50 pounds with material handling devices
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Collect and remove trash and clean parking garages and parking lots.
  • Set up for special events in various departments as assigned.
  • Properly maintain and store tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Perform safety checks on equipment and vehicles for safe operations according to the standard of use, and report any damage for repairs or replacement
  • Effectively work alone and with a team.
  • Operate a box truck, forklift, and other heavy equipment, as needed.
  • Remove snow and ice from university walkways, roads, ramps, parking areas, and shuttle bus stops by utilizing the appropriate snow removal equipment and spreading salt in those areas.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including but not limited to snow, rain, heat, and cold.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
